Coffee brake with a Dürer inspired rabbit statue

Sometimes the most ordinary moments are the most extraordinary; you just have to notice them.

The Story:
I have always had a special affinity for rabbits. If you’ve ever had a rabbit as a pet, you know: they are free-spirited like cats, but loyal like dogs. Dürer’s famous drawing, Young Hare, is one of my favorite artworks. So, when I visited Nuremberg—Dürer’s birthplace—I came home with a rubber rabbit statue inspired by that very piece. Since then, it has sat on my studio’s side table, becoming a quiet part of my coffee breaks.

Artist’s Note:
My first rabbit was named Béla, and he would always start a unique little celebration the moment we got home. Animals have so many emotions; with a little attunement, they are so easy to read. Béla loved lying on his back in my lap, and as I petted him, he would click his cute little teeth in pure joy. I often thought to myself that these were unforgettable moments—and I was right. Even twenty years later, the memory is still vivid.

Why “Time Capsule”?
I am painting this series for my children, hoping they will pass them down through generations. I want these works to act as a visual diary of their ancestors’ lives 10 or even 100 years from now—a legacy that inspires them to seek out their own moments of awe.
